A unique knife since 1890 The Opinel pocketknife, created by Joseph Opinel in 1890 in the Maurienne valley, is a symbol of French know-how, lasting, traditional and passed on from one generation to the next. The design has remained unchanged for more than 130 years and is available in a number of versions to meet all types of needs.

Two steel, various types of wood, but always the same silhouette

Opinel uses two types of steel for the blades of its pocketknives: carbon, the original steel used by the brand, incomparably sharp, and stainless steel, the most used today, which is less prone to corrosion. The wood most frequently used is beech, but many other species have been used to enhance the handle of the knife: olive, ebony, padouk, walnut, oak... Discover all the Opinel pocketknife collections, from the traditional to the luxury collection, including the multipurpose knives. Knives that you can personalise with engraving to make them even more unique.
