With 2022 drawing to a close, it's a good time to look back at Opinel's best moments: news, events, collaborations...

January - Perpétue

January - Perpétue

At the beginning of 2022, we expanded our tableware range with a new cutlery collection. Perpétue is our first cutlery collection made entirely from stainless steel. This collection was also the first to feature a cutlery set composed of knives, forks, tablespoons and teaspoons. It's a sweet nod to the Opinel family: Perpétue was the grandmother of the brand's founder, Joseph Opinel. Working alongside her husband, Victor-Amédée, she forged nails in the family's workshop. With its simple, timeless aesthetic and impressive durability, this collection perfectly embodies Perpétue and the brand's roots. Find out more.

March - T-duo Peeler

The T-Duo peeler is equipped with two double-sided, movable stainless steel blades. The first blade is micro-serrated and designed to peel all kinds of vegetables, including tomatoes, peppers, and aubergines. The second blade allows you to slice vegetables (cucumber, sweet potato, turnip, etc.) into fine strips. The comfortable beechwood handle gives this peeler a unique charm. Find out more

April - Tour de France Limited Collection

For the 2022 Tour de France, we collaborated with Manivelle (Matthieu Lifschitz) to create a limited edition series consisting of two No. 08 knives. One model displays the Tour de France jersey colours: yellow, green and red polka dot, printed on the handle via sublimation. The other model shows the Arc de Triomphe, Mont Ventoux, the climbers' polka dot motif and and graphics symbolizing rain and mist: the knife's beechwood handle is adorned with yellow and black tampography. May - Opinel USA's visit

In early spring, our American team, Opinel USA, came to visit us in Chambéry. After years of working together, it was vital that we finally meet and share our professional experience. The trip began with an in-depth tour of the plant, showcasing our teams and expertise. Following that, visits to local stores afforded them a better understanding of the importance of Opinel's heritage and the significance it holds for so many. The trip ended with a visit to the original workshop and the museum in Saint-Jean-de Maurienne. Loads of energy and memories to share with our US clients!

June - N°08 Snakewood

Our classic No. 08 blade once again sports a new type of wood: snakewood. This is a limited edition.

This wood comes from Guyana and has a unique grain with light and dark tones reminiscent of a snake's skin.

Simple, sturdy and effective, this limited series knife features an 8.5 cm blade with a polyglaze finish and an oiled wooden handle. Made in France.

August - The Opinel Road

Designed by Jacques Opinel, founder of the Opinel Museum, this free 16 km trail was inaugurated during the summer. Visitors can now view Opinel's largest knife as well as the remnants of the very first Opinel workshop. Although Opinel knives have been manufactured near Chambéry since 1916, the Opinel family has always remained firmly attached to its roots. Opinel and its museum are extremely proud to have opened this new tourist trail, leading straight to the birthplace of the famous knife: the Opinel Trail. Find out more

September - Maison & Objet Show

In early September, we took part in the Maison & Objet fair, held in Paris. We were delighted to meet you all again and to present our new products. We would like to thank all current and future partners who stopped by our booth.

October - Casse-Croûte Festival

Opinel attended the first edition of the Casse-Croûte Festival in Chamonix, where gastronomy, oenology, culture and nature meet. Local chefs and lovers of the Alps came together to exchange, share and celebrate their cuisine (Nadia Sammut, Guillaume Monjuré, Manon Bocquentin, Thaïs Giannetti, Nicolas Darnauguilhem, Mathieu Rostaing-Tayard, Giuliano Baldessari, Oliver Piras, Alessandra del Favero, etc.).

November - One year anniversary of our collaboration with Aurélien Ducroz

In November 2021, we announced our partnership with ocean racer Aurélien Ducroz. A collaboration built on our shared roots and passion. In June 2022, Aurélien was crowned world champion of Class40 in La Rochelle. We are proud to stand at his side in all his adventures, the most recent being the 2022 Route du Rhum. Find out more

December - Christmas Illustrations

Learn more about artist Julien Roche, with whom we struck up a collaboration for this Christmas 2022.

"The collaboration came following the Casse-croûte cooking festival in Chamonix. I was responsible for the visual identity of the event, of which Opinel is a partner. I imagined a "pop-up" house, in the vein of advent calendars and Christmas chocolate boxes. The idea of a "house of knives" developed naturally: inside the house are several rooms, featuring scenes of everyday life involving Opinel blades: eating, cooking, harvesting, sawing wood..."  Find out more
