Nestled between lakes and mountains, Savoie is the birthplace of Opinel — an authentic land where craftsmanship, nature, and simplicity come together. With Les Alpes by Opinel, we journey through the Alpine roads to meet those who embody this spirit — artisans, chefs, creators, and devoted enthusiasts. This winter, we’re setting off for Chambéry — the brand’s adopted home — for an escape filled with traditions, local connections, and seasonal inspiration.
Just a few kilometres from Chambéry, the Revard resort is an essential stop for anyone seeking to embrace the full authenticity of a Savoyard winter. Nestled at 1,500 metres atop the Bauges massif, it looks out over Lake Bourget and the Alpine peaks in a spectacular sweep — a natural panorama that forms a true balcony above the Alps.
Renowned for Nordic skiing, the Revard is also a winter playground for snowshoe adventurers, ski tourers, and anyone tempted by a dogsled ride. The mood here is tranquil, nearly untouched by time... a world away from the bustle of the big resorts.
Here, cradled by nature, winter acquires a unique and unforgettable character. With its snow-covered forests, soothing silence, and local traditions, the resort embodies the art of mountain living. A pause at the Revard offers a moment to reconnect with what truly matters — and perhaps to tuck an Opinel into your pocket before heading out to explore.

🥪 Plan ahead for a cosy snack break: some water, a bite to eat (or a tiny fondue kit, if you’re feeling bold), and your favourite Opinel — after all, cutting an apple in the snow or saucisson on a summit is pure Savoyard living.
📲 Get informed before you head out by looking at the weather, piste conditions, and snow updates.
🚗 Check access, as it fills up quickly at weekends and during holidays. Arrive early, or take a shuttle bus from Chambéry or Aix-les-Bains.
After a day of fresh mountain air up high at Revard, with Nordic glides and snowy panoramas, return to the city to carry this Alpine spirit forward in the most authentic way.
Tucked away in the cobbled streets of Chambéry, nestled on the elegant Rue Croix-d’Or, lies the official Opinel boutique. Here, only a stone’s throw from Place Saint-Léger, we welcome you into a warm, understated space.
Push open the door of this boutique and you enter the history of an iconic object — created over 130 years ago in Savoie and still crafted in the Alps. There you’ll find all our collections — from the famous pocket knives to our various kitchen ranges, as well as gardening tools, tableware, limited editions, and exclusive collaborations.
Axel and his team will take the time to advise and guide you through the different models, materials, and uses. Whether you’re an aficionado or a newcomer, the visit offers a chance to explore — or revisit — a local expertise that has become truly iconic.
An engraving and sharpening service is offered to elevate the boutique experience — a chance to leave with a personalised knife, for you or for someone you love, and a keepsake that is useful, durable, and full of meaning.
A place where aficionados, curious visitors, and travellers alike can explore — or rediscover — the world of Opinel…
A visit to the Opinel shop is a friendly and inspiring break, where you can discover local craftsmanship and the Alpine art of living. And if you still have a little time, why not take a gourmet break with Cédric Pernot, a master chocolatier located just a stone's throw away, where it is rumoured that some Opinels are also sold... in chocolate form.
An iconic address in Chambéry, Au Fidèle Berger has embodied Savoyard elegance and indulgence for more than a century. Behind the refined window displays, Cédric Pernot and his team uphold an exceptional savoir-faire, crafting fine chocolates, pralines, and pastry creations inspired by the mountains. A sweet interlude where tradition and authenticity reveal themselves in every bite.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Cédric Pernot. The son of a baker and pastry chef, I’ve been based in Chambéry since 2003 and at Au Fidèle Berger since 2011.
I was going to study accountancy at university, but I didn't make it past 15 days. So I trained in my parents' bakery and pastry shop and took several courses at further education colleges. Not wanting to take over the family business, I opened my first pastry shop in March 2003 on rue du Sénat in Chambéry, followed by a tearoom and boutique on the same street in 2005.
In 2011, I left my two shops behind to take over the Fidèle Berger, and in 2016 I was lucky enough to be welcomed by the Relais Desserts association. Finally, in 2024 I opened my second shop in Challes-les-Eaux.
s there an Alpine speciality or product you’re especially fond of revisiting in your work?
I like to use green Chartreuse in some of my pastries. I’m deeply attached to the flavours of Chartreuse and to the mountains where the plants used to make it are gathered.
What's your favourite place in the Alps?
Chambéry, naturally, and the Col de l’Epine, where I spent much of my youth, at a time when I was practising paragliding.
How and when did the partnership with Opinel come about?
Some time ago, during the festive season, we made a cake with the Opinel logo. Every customer who bought this cake got a black Opinel knife with our company logo as a gift.
It was then that I had the idea and the desire to create a speciality that would take up the aesthetics of the Opinel knife, to which people are so attached. It's incredible to see the extent to which Opinel is THE iconic brand for Savoyards.
Do you have any memories or a story about Opinel that you can share with us?
When I was little, I used to collect them...
